Plane Monuments

Since Spangdahlem is an airbase flying is an important part of the scenery around here. Like many Air Force bases there is a memorial park that commemorates some of the more noted planes that have flown out of the base. There is a nice dispay that has a flight of 3 fighters in the park.

One of the fighter squadrons that is assigned to the base now is an A-10 Squadron. Heinrich can always spot an A-10 by the two big jets that sit on top of the wings close to the plane's body.  In Halo a wart hog is a jeep with a machine gun.  In the Air Force an A-10 is nicknamed a "warthog".  The round thing under the nose is a powerful machine gun.

An other plane is the F-4E. This one has two rockets slung underneath the wings.

Near the front gate is a Saber, the symbol for the base. Airmen at Spangdahlem are part of "Saber Nation".
