Marzipan

One day Heinrich was walking around town and found some delicious hot dogs on hamburger buns in one of the shop windows. The looked very good but then he realized they weren't really hotdogs. They were made out of marzipan.

Marzipan is an almond paste that is easy to mold, kind of like modeling clay. After the Germans shape the marzipan into a piece of food they use food coloring and paint them so they look real.

At Christmas time a popular gift is to make or buy a Christmas basket of marzipan fruit to give to guest when they come to visit. The more expensive fruit baskets are actually not the most perfect. The best baskets actually strive to have pieces that look real so the artist will put bruises and discolorations on the fruit pieces.

Over time marzipan art has moved from just being fruit to being other fun things as well. Heinrich found this basket of marzipan that looked just like a basket of ladybugs.

The final basket Heinrich found was filled with these things. He was pretty sure the whitish things were hedgehogs, but he couldn't really decide what the green things were supposed to be. What do you think they are?
